01/5Here are 5 early signs of lung cancer
There has been a considerable rise in the cases of chronic pulmonary diseases across the world and India is not an exception. Long-term exposure to air pollution and smoking are two of the major causes for lung-related diseases like asthma, lung cancer, and others.
As per global data, lung cancer claims more female lives every year than any other type of cancer and you will be surprised to know that this disease is quite common among the non-smokers too. One of the major problems with lung cancer is that there are very few early signs to detect the disease at an early stage. By the time it is 100 percent established that the person is suffering from lung cancer, the disease is already on its advance stage and has spread in other parts of the body. There are different early signs of cancer, but they are not always accurate. Sometimes, it can also be due to other health conditions.
Here are 5 possible signs of lung cancer you should look out for:
02/5Change and prolonged coughing
Usually, cough associated with cold or respiratory infection disappears in a week, but if it stays longer then it is best to get yourself diagnosed. In most of the lung cancer cases, the tumor keeps on growing inside the lungs and does not show any symptoms. The tumor pushes the branch of the major air passage connected to the lungs and can trigger the cough receptors. So, if your cough is dry or produces mucus or it sounds deeper or you see blood clots while coughing, consult your doctor.
If you have suddenly started feeling breathlessness while walking, talking or doing any normal work, then it can be a sign of lung cancer. In medical terms, breathlessness or shortness of breath is called dyspnea. This generally happens when the tumor present in your chest grows in size and blocks the narrow air passage.
If lung cancer spreads to the bones it can even lead to pain in your back and other areas of the body. Most of the time people find it difficult to differentiate between bone and muscle pain. One of the major differences between the two is that bone pain gets more acute at night and increases with movement.
An unexplained weight loss is always linked with lung cancer or any other type of cancer. A person loses weight suddenly due to the presence of cancer cells in the body, which utilizes all the energy. So, if you lost 5 kilos in a month without following any weight loss diet or exercising then it might be a clue to a change in your health.
